BLUE STAR MEMORIAL MARKER CEREMONY in LYNDEN
The dedication of the Byways Blue Star Memorial Marker on June 29, 2007, at Centennial Park in Lynden, was the dream accomplished by Lynden Garden Club President, Diana Graeber. During the year she had raised $1,400 through decorated glass brick project, ordered the plaque, found a local business to help pay for the rock on which it is mounted, ordered and laid pavers in front of the memorial, and planned the dedication to coincide with the army band Fourth of July concert in Lynden.
The marker has been placed in Lynden's Centennial Park, the site of an obelisk memorial to local people who have served and died in wars of the twentieth century. During the past decade members of the Lynden Garden Club have volunteered to work with the Park Department to plan, plant and maintain gardens of the park.
Due to rain this year's band concert was moved from the park to Judson Auditorium. Preceding the concert the Chamber of Commerce gave ice cream sundaes with local strawberries. At 7:00 p.m. the army band played to a large, appreciative audience. The mayor and Diana Graeber gave greetings.
We look forward to continuing the tradition next year at Centennial Park.
