This armchair tour will offer the perfect incentive to seek out plants and trees that make a statement in the heart of winter. - Christianson's Nursery - Growing Tea in the Valley
Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. $5.00 Reservations required. Call 360-466-3821 Richard Sakuma, of Sakuma Brothers Farm, visited the Nursery two years ago to give a presentation on his latest undertaking: growing tea in Skagit Valley. Sakuma’s is recognized as one of the only two commercial tea growers in the United States. The star of this program was Camellia sinensis from whose harvested leaves the teas are made. Richard is now producing black, green and oolong teas and will present a slide show to update us on this exciting venture. Following the program you will have the chance to sample these teas which are now available online and at his Market Stand in Burlington. Pre-orders will be taken for Camellia sinensis arriving at the nursery in February.
- Christianson's Nursery - Dormant Pruning
Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. $5.00 Reservations required. Call 360-466-3821 Ani Gurnee of Morning Light Design will begin her series of pruning classes at the Nursery with her program on dormant pruning, in which she will offer advice and tips on “judicious” pruning of trees and shrubs. It is essential to learn proper techniques from the beginning to insure a plant’s natural growth habit. Too often gardeners are faced with a tree or shrub that has outgrown its home or taken on a lanky appearance, and they do not know how or when to make modifications. As a seasoned landscaper Ani will guide you through the steps and use of proper tools to get the job done.
