TFGC Scholarship Recipients for the 2009-2010 Academic Year
Sarah Elizabeth Ball, a student in the Plant Sciences Department at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is concentrating in Landscape Design and Construction and anticipates graduating in May 2010. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, she plans to work toward a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture. Having become increasingly passionate about people and plant relationships, she is interested in doing not-for-profit projects aimed at environmental community development and creating healthy, sustainable public spaces. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering with various campus organizations, reading, drawing, and cycling or hiking in the Smoky Mountains.
Ms. Ball has also been awarded an NGC Scholarship for the 2009-2010 Academic Year.
Amy Dyer is pursuing degrees in both Plant and Soil Science and Spanish at Middle Tennessee State University. A founding member of the MTSU Plant and Soil Science Club, she works closely with that organization as well as assisting with the University farm and volunteering with the Stones River National Battlefield of Murfreesboro. After graduating, she plans to join the Peace Corps, promoting sustainable agriculture techniques abroad and serving underprivileged communities.
Matthew Perry, a student at The University of Tennessee At Martin, is majoring in Golf Course and Landscape Management with a minor in Finance. He is active in the UTM Turf Club, a member of the Soil Judging Team and an Ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. This summer he will be interning for the Hermitage Golf Course; after college he plans to pursue work in the field of commercial landscaping.
