Parkdale Garden Club President’s Report ‘07-’08
Mary Lou Larsen

We have 25 members and four honorary members.

Every year we hold a plant sale during the Hood River Blossom Festival, the funds raised go for our Parkdale Bicentennial Memorial Garden maintenance fund. June 2007 we held a plant & bake sale in the garden during National Garden Week.

Members bring floral arrangements to our monthly meetings, after the meeting we deliver them to a local senior living facility. This is part of our ongoing Garden Therapy program. Mother’s Day we deliver flowers to them too.

Parkdale Garden Club has informative monthly programs, and members share design tips, we had a garden stepping stone workshop and made beautiful mosaic designs. Member Jean Hardeman, gave a program on Candy making in time for the Holidays.

Each year we have a High Tea and two potluck picnics. December we have a Christmas Party.

We support the OSFGC Blue Star Memorial Marker Fund, The Willamette National Cemetery and Gardens of Enchantment, 4 H Summer Camp and the Parkdale Fire Department.

February 23rd was our 60th Anniversary, June 7th we plan a Community Tea at the Parkdale Grange to celebrate.

Parkdale Garden Club Spring 2007 President's Report

We have 24 members and some new prospects.

Spring 2006, we had a good plant sale during the Blossom Festival.  Most of the proceeds go to support the maintenance of the Parkdale Bicentennial Memorial Garden.  An upper Valley 4-H group members cleaned the garden before the plant sale, help set up tables before and cleaned  Parkdale Community Center after the sale.

We are in the process of applying for a grant from the Hood River Lions to repair the irrigation system in the garden.

One of our members, Pearl Meeks, passed away and a long time supporter, Jerry Routson, passed away.

We hosted the 2006 Fall District Meeting.  It was well received. Our immediate past president, Pam Crider was elected Director of the Mt Hood District, club members Gwenie Barrilleaux, Assistant Director and Patrica Paige, District Secretary  for 2007- 2009.

Parkdale along with the  Hood River Valley Evening and Odell Garden Clubs won awards from the Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs, the  Pacific Region and a certificate of appreciation from the National Garden Club for our Tulipomania bulb planting project that was held in the fall of 2005.

Parkdale Garden Club also received an OSFGC award for the increase of our membership. We have been having "bring a friend" to garden club and have added three new members this year.

We had several potlucks and a high tea in 2006. We held the 2007 high tea on May Day. The club has plans for potlucks this summer and will be hosting a Mt Hood District potluck/social garden tour in July.

Our garden club also made wreaths & swags during the 2006 Christmas Holidays to deck the halls of family, friends and community members. We held a food donation drive during Christmas for the local food bank.

Our garden club took part in the 2006 Hood River County Fair Flower Show, the 2007 Hood River Valley Evening Garden Club's Spring Flower Show,  2006 Odell Garden Club's Fall Flower Show and the 2007 OSFGC Inc State Flower Show.

This Mother's Day we made corsages and bouquets for a local senior living facility.

To celebrate Garden Week we are a summer plant sale on June 9th in the Parkdale Bicentennial Memorial Garden.

Our charities are 4-H, the Parkdale Fire Hall, Orall Hull Gardens and the Blue Star Memorial.
