Odell Garden Club had our July Meeting at the Lavender Valley Farm across the street from my home.
There were 24 ladies present to greet and sing Happy Birthday to Maybelle Warren for her 90th birthday.
Although there were several ladies that have July birthdays, we singled out Maybelle. Odell Garden Club bought her a purple orchid for her atrium. She is showing us a bloom off of a cactus that she is growing. She said that it has a lot of blooms.
Dale Harris (owner) was a very informative speaker and we all learned a lot about growing lavender and harvesting it.
Maybelle discovered that she is a very close neighbor. She lives just over the hill below the ditch.
Refreshments were delicious. They had lavender scones served with apricot lavender jam, guacamole served with purple chips, apples served with lavender dip and Naomi made a birthday cake. Angel food cake with "90" in raspberries on the top.
At the OSFGC Convention I learned about a World Gardening project called the Heifer Project that helps buy goats for outcast women in Nepal. We voted to send $100 to the Heifer Project and $10 for the World Gardening. I am going to find out (I have sent an email to Janet Conley) how much one goat costs. Everyone thought it was a very worthwhile project.
We went over the flower show we host at the fair and had sign up for Clerking, hostesssing, Heart of Hospice flower arranging.
It was a bit windy but a most beautiful setting.
