SEPTEMBER
Program
: “Protecting Our World – Living Green...Living Clean”

Speakers: Lynn Wells and Marge McCauley, 38 CR 362, Oxford, MS 38655

Lynn and Marge, GCM Deep South Regional Unified Project Co-Chairmen, will share their ideas for club participation in this project. They are both members of the Oxford Garden Club, avid gardeners and environmentalists. “Living Green...Living Clean” is a two year project to promote environmental awareness.

OCTOBER
Program: “Getting to Know Bluebirds”

Speaker: Tena Taylor, 192 CR 457, Calhoun City, MS 38916

Tena, a bluebird enthusiast for fifteen years, is a charter member of Mississippi Bluebirds. She maintains the national database of 2,500 members of the North American Bluebird Society as a membership committee member and serves on the NABS Board of Directors. She monitors and maintains thirty bluebird nest boxes of her own. Tena will display a nest box and give it to a lucky BGC member after her program.

NOVEMBER
Program:    “Fun with Miniatures”

Speaker:     Jennifer Flautt, P.O. Box 75, Webb, MS 38966

Jennifer, GCM Design Units Chairman, will present a program on Miniature Floral Designs (8 inches or less). Her program will help our Club prepare for the Hills and Delta Flower Show June 2, 2010, in Batesville. Jennifer is a long time member of Plantation Garden Club, is an award winning floral designer, and an avid gardener. She is also an NGC Accredited Flower Show Judge and Chairman of numerous flower shows.

DECEMBER
Program:  “Alternative Holiday Plants and Flowers”

Speaker:    Carol Bullard,  P.O. Box 9, Pope, MS 38658

Carol is a past President of Batesville Garden Club and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. Her program will introduce members to traditional and non-traditional holiday plants and flowers for indoor gardening and decoration. Carol is a Master Flower Show Judge, Garden Study Consultant and all-around plant nut.

JANUARY
Program
:  “The Many Styles of Floral Design”

Speaker:    Debby Cooper, 204 W. Park Avenue, Greenwood, MS 38930  
     
Debby will present some of the many types of NGC Floral Design styles used in flower shows. Her program will help prepare our Club for the Hills and Delta District Flower Show June 2, 2010, in Batesville. Debby is an NGC Accredited Flower Show Judge and is the 1st Vice-President of the Miss. Flower Show Judges Council. Debby is a member of the Greenwood Garden Club and has chaired numerous Flower Show including the past three State Flower Shows.  Debby is currently serving GCM as 3rd Vice-President. 

FEBRUARY
Program:  “Garden Design by a Gardener”

Speaker:   Lark Brown,  P.O. Box 9, Schlater, MS 38954

Lark will present her program not only from a Landscape Architect’s view but from a gardener’s view as well. She is GCM Horticulture Chairman and a Master Flower Show Judge and member of Greenwood Garden Club. Lark was a gardener for many years before realizing her potential, and at forty, went back to college at Mississippi State University to study Landscape Architecture. Lark’s unique approach to garden design will appeal to all members.

MARCH
Program
:   “Energy Conservation”

Speaker:     Marlin Williams, P.O. Box 513, Batesville, MS 38606

Mr. Williams, Communications Director for TVEPA, is a native and resident of Batesville. His presentation will include information for reducing energy usage and costs. This meeting will be open to the public and advertised in newspaper and on local radio stations.

APRIL
Program
:   “Creating an Arboretum”

Speaker:    Suzan Erber, 70 Pine Cove, Senatobia, MS 38668

Suzan is chairman of Tree City USA and curator of Sycamore Arboretum in Senatobia. She is well known in the area for the beautiful plantings in the large containers on Senatobia city streets. She is also responsible for the care and maintenance of Memorial Park, especially the roses. Suzan was instrumental in the creation of Sycamore Arboretum and will explain its beginning and maintenance program.

MAY
Program
:   “The Art of Growing Daylilies”

Speakers:   Scoot and Betty Wilson, 210 Court St., Batesville, MS

Scoot and Betty Wilson have been growing Daylilies for many years in their gardens on Court Street and are members of the American Daylily Society. They will guide us through the garden, explaining their cultural practices, new cultivars, daylily breeding and other aspects of daylily gardening. They will be taking orders for fall purchase.
