Time: 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30)
Place: Hughes Auditorium - Reiman Gardens, Ames
Summer Meetings: held in the gardens of members or a nature center. These often include a potluck or brown bag meal. Check "Meetings" page for time and place.
Annual Dues: $20.00
Benefits: Members receive a montly Newsletter, a Yearbook, membership to the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, including a subscription to the "NEWS", and to the National Garden Clubs, Inc. AGC meetings include informational programs, workshops and special events throughout the year. Plus, Garden Club members make great friends! The Ames Garden Club sponsors a Standard Flower Show each year for the public with both floral design and horticulture sections. Seasonal flowers, shrubs, house plants, fruits and vegetables are exhibited. Flower Shows give members the opportunity to express their creativity in floral design and to introduce the public to new varieties of garden plants. Funds are raised by an Annual Plant Sale which features hardy perennials from members' gardens. Proceeds pay for expenses of the local club and donations to worthy horticulture-related organizations. The Ames Garden Club also undertakes several community projects. Recently the Club has purchased garden books for the Ames Public Library, planted trees in Ames city parks with Trees Forever and Ames Parks and Recreation, maintained the flowerbeds at Heartland Senior Services, and assisted in sponsoring and teaching the "Plant Lab" children's program offered late winter and early spring to area children at Reiman Gardens.
