ACTIVE MEMBERS: 60 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: Our purpose shall be the advancement of gardening, development of the home grounds, garden therapy, civic beautification and aiding in the protection of forest, wild flowers and birds. Our Logo: the heart is symbolic of our love of gardening,growing things and life. The growing flower reminds us of the beauty and joy we experience as we grow together in knowledge and friendship. A stated purpose of the club has been involvement in civic development projects to enhance the beauty of the village of LaGrange, including plantings at the U S Post Office, the LaGrange Historical Society, the LaGrange War Memorial, and other community areas. We are currently working with our village on a new design plan for the container gardens located throughout our downtown area. In the summer, club members meet weekly to provide flower arrangements to local nursing homes. At Christmas, we make corsages for our Senior Citizen’s Center. We also work in conjunction with the LaGrange Park District to organize and conduct activities relating to horticulture, gardening, conservation and flower arranging for second to sixth grade students through our Junior Garden Club. The club’s annual “Garden Faire and Plant Sale” each May, as well as other fundraisers have allowed us to provide scholarships in the Lyons Township District 204 area. Proceeds from fundraising are also used to provide education for our members through our monthly horticultural programs and to make contributions to various national, state and local gardening activities and projects. Students in District 204 having a good academic record and pursuing a college education in the field of horticulture, botany, forestry, agriculture, landscape design, floral design, environmental study, or conservation are eligible to apply for scholarships. |
