2009 Activities

Jan  13:  Hostess Marianne brought delicious cookies and strawberries to the meeting which was held in the Putnam County Library.  Afterwards, we went next door to the Presbyterian Church, where Lillian was showing chemistry experiments to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from Putnam Elementary School.

Jan 15:  Carillon gave a talk at the Kiwanis meeting on the activities of the Town and Country Garden Club.

Jan 21:  The Native Plant Symposium was held at the State Botanical Gardens. 

Feb 4:  Azalea District Meeting was held at Reynolds Plantation clubhouse 

Feb 10:  A luncheon meeting was held at Rock Eagle.  After lunch, the officers for 2009-2011 were installed by Jane Hersey, Azalea District Director.  Members also enjoyed a raffle of prizes donated by the outgoing officers.

Mar 10:
  Bill Watterson gave a presentation on the history of cut glass and showed many examples of antique cut glass.  The hostesses, Barb, Donna and Cathy provided refreshments on the garden club dishes first used in the 1950s.  The meeting was held at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Eatonton.

Apr 4:  The annual Spring Plant and Bake sale was held at the Plaza.   Members contributed plants, baked goods and household items for the white elephant table.

Apr 14:  Keith Fielder, Putnam county extension agent, gave a presentation to the club and answered questions.  The hostesses, Carleen, Murl, Pat C. and Janis provided refreshments.  The meeting was held at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Eatonton.

Apr 14-15:  Carillon attended the Garden Club of Georgia convention in Atlanta.

May 12:  The annual picnic was held at Phyllis’ home.  Members brought a covered dish and a plant to share.  The hostesses were Phyllis, Claudia and Debra.  After the picnic, some members took a ride on in Pat and Phyllis’ pontoon boat on Lake Sinclair.

Sept 2009:  Myra told us about the library and Art Hargrove gave a presentation on container gardening and answered questions from the club members.  The hostesses, Judy C., Myra and Pat H. provided refreshments.  The meeting was held at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Eatonton.

Oct 13:  Pam Reese from Central State Hospital gave a presentation on the hospital and their needs. The hostesses, Jackie, Carol H. and Carol S. provided refreshments.  The meeting was held at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Eatonton.

Oct 16:  Carillon attended the Azalea District Meeting in Thomson, Georgia.  Our club won 1st place nationally for medium size club websites.

Oct 31:   The garden club held its Fall Plant and Bake Sale during the 1st Annual Briar Patch Arts Festival in downtown Eatonton.

Nov 10:  Jim Garner, executive director of Lockerly Arboretum gave a talk on heirloom bulbs.  The hostess, Shelagh, provided refreshments.  The meeting was held at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Eatonton.
