Golden Days of South Carolina
A Golden Opportunity
NGC President-elect Renee Blaschke is encouraging all states to plant daffodils to recognize all former members of Garden Clubs that served the organization and are now unable to do so due to health, living in retirement centers, nursing homes or downsized living accommodations with limited gardening space. She has suggested mass plantings in the places listed above, as well as public buildings, cemeteries, veterans homes, and Blue Star Memorial sites. Daffodils could also be potted and placed in retirement centers, nursing homes, delivered to those confined at home, etc.
GCSC is offering a golden opportunity to one club in each of the four categories by size: a club with under 30 members, a club with 30-99 members, a club with 100+ members and a council. GCSC will award one hundred dollars ($100.00) to a club or council for the planting of daffodils. In order to apply for this award, the club or council must submit a brief description of their idea to the state Golden Days chairman by September, 1, 2009. The winning clubs must agree to send in a narrative and pictures of the completed project. The winning clubs will be notified by September 30 so that they can plant the bulbs later in the fall. Clubs will be judged on the impact of their planting to the community.
