Staging
All classes are staged on a 30” square, placed on a platform 33” off the floor, with a backboard 30” wide by 40” high.
Colors: Classes 1, 3, & 5 – Gray (Benjamin Moore #2118-60, Misty Memories)
Classes 2, 4, & 6 – Green (Benjamin Moore
#2028-50 – Wales Green)
Awards
TRICOLOR AWARD – May be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 points or higher. All plant material used in the design must be fresh but need not dominate. Classes 1, 4, and 6 are eligible.
DESIGNER’S CHOICE AWARD – May be awarded to a blue ribbon winner scoring 95 points or higher. Within NGC policies, the designer has complete freedom to choose fresh and/or dried plant materials and other components. Classes 2, 3, and 5 are eligible
Design Division Rules
1. Entries are open to members and affiliates of the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
2. An Exhibitors’ Meeting will be held in Agricultural Hall on the fairgrounds at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2007.
3. The first entry day is Friday, August 17, 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. Exhibits must be removed before noon on Wednesday, August 22. The second entry day is Wednesday, August 22, 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. Exhibits must be removed on Monday, August 27, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. On both entry days, judging will begin at 9:30 a.m.
4. Each exhibit is to be the work of one exhibitor and may be completed at home or in the Show area. Only Committee members and exhibitors are allowed in the Show area during entry time.
5. Some plant material must be used in every exhibit. The following are not permitted: artificial plant material, treated fresh plant material, menu food, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
6. Wild collected plants of species listed by the Massachusetts Natural Heritage program may not be used in Standard Flower Shows of the GCFMA or its member clubs. Cultivated plant material appearing on the list may be used if the Exhibitor provides a typed card noting that it has not been wild collected.
7. A list of all plant material (common names) must be given to and initialed by the Classification Chairman before the Exhibitor leaves the Show area.
8. The Standard System of Awards allows for the following awards in each class: one First Place (scoring 90 points or above, Blue Ribbon), one Second Place (scoring 85 points or above, Red Ribbon), one Third Place (scoring 80 points or above, Yellow Ribbon), and one or more Honorable Mention (scoring 75 points or above, White Ribbon).
9. Exhibitors are responsible for keeping designs in good condition for the duration of the Show.
10. The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc. and The Marshfield Fair will endeavor to protect all exhibits but cannot be responsible for loss or damage to the Exhibitor’s property.
11. Design entries will be judged by the appropriate Scales of Points found on page 303 of The Handbook for Flower Shows, 2007 updated edition.
