Our club was organized in 1948, federated in 1949 and incorporated in 1952.
We are members of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (FFGC) in District XI and National Garden Clubs (NGC). The City of Pompano Beach adopted the Sea Grape as their official tree per our club’s request. We staged our first Standard Flower Show in 1952. A Blue Star Memorial Marker on U.S.1 in Pompano Beach was dedicated in 1954. A 12 foot Live Oak Tree, designated as “The Liberty Tree” was planted on Arbor Day in 1976 at the Pompano Beach Recreation Center/Emma Lou Olson Civic Center. A pin with our club flower, the red hibiscus, was originated and distributed to each of our members in 2004. When new members are installed, they get a club pin and yearbook. “Recipes from the Garden Club” was published as a fundraiser with 242 of our members’ favorite recipes. We hold fundraisers during the year to help support Habitat for Humanity, Wildlife Care Center, Nature Conservancy, Deerfield Beach Arboretum, FFGC Wekiva Youth Camp, FFGC College Scholarships, FFGC S.E.E.K. (Save the Earth’s Environment through Knowledge) and the Pompano Beach High School Multicultural Garden, etc. In the spring 2006, we planted 120 red, white and blue plants and flowers to attract butterflies at Hope Lutheran Preschool in Pompano Beach. Also planted in the Butterfly Garden, with the children’s help, were four Foxtail Palms which were dedicated as a “Patriotic Garden” in honor of our military troops, local police and firemen. We currently have a membership of 42. At our monthly general meetings we offer programs on all aspects of gardening and floral design. Field Trips are planned to gardens, arboretums and historic houses in the area. Educational seminars and classes are offered by FFGC and District XI for members. A PBGC Business Card was created in 2008 for advertising purposes. PBGC celebrated their 60th Anniversary in 2008. In March 2009 PBGC held a joint Standard Flower Show with the Fort Lauderdale Garden Club held at John Knox Village in Pompano Beach.
