In 2007, a Grant from the North End Rotary Club of Yuma
provided benches and podium for the mini amphitheater
and sidewalk across from the Vegetable Garden. _____________________________ Second Annual Ice Cream Social - April 2006

Three very talented girls that live here in Yuma. _____________________________ Barn Project Groundbreaking (From the Desert Gardener on July 6, 2006) The following Tuesday, after the Ice Cream Social, when I got home from the MGM
(Moody Garden Makers) Garden Club Meeting I received a phone call from Pat Cooper. She said that she and Frank were
interested in helping us get that barn we want for the Moody Garden.
Of course we were thrilled to be able to proceed with our plans sooner than we expected. We are so grateful to the Coopers for their help.
Frank Cooper is a native Yuman - born on October 6, 1914. He was raised on a farm at 8th Street and Somerton Avenue. That property is now part of the University of Arizona Valley Experiment Station.
Over the years Frank has held many positions in many different service organizations. He has always been known for giving back to his community.
Pat and her husband Allen Martel came to Yuma in 1952. They had two children. So she was a busy working mother. She retired from the telephone company in 1979 after 32 years of service. After retirement she was active with the Friends of the Library, ran the Republican Headquarters for a while and continued to sing at her church among many other things.
Both couples were friends of Robert J. Moody and his wife, Elizabeth.
Frank and Pat just celebrated their eleventh wedding anniversary and at 91 and 75 years of age they are still involved in the community. Although she says they are trying to retire - trying to say no - they are very busy people. They are involved with Westerners, which is an extension of the Historical Society and they are involved with the Assistance League at home. Frank repairs typewriters for them and she helps with sorting and preparing items for sale. She also makes lap robes for whichever organization is in need of them.
Obviously they are still giving back to their community in bigger ways, too. We are very pleased that Frank and Pat Cooper have chosen to work with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension and the MGM Garden Club on this barn project.
The ground breaking for the barn is going to be Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 7 pm at the Robert J. Moody Demonstration Garden. You are invited to attend.
