Garden Clubs Make a Difference in Communities
Welcome to Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. website. We hope this will be helpful to
members and visitors who seek information about our organization. Garden clubs continue to make a difference in Arkansas communities. AFGC consists of five (5) districts. They are Northeast, Northwest, Pulaski, Southeast, and Southwest. Each district has a director and members enjoy a fall meeting each year when all of their clubs get together for business, fellowship, and an educational program. Members look forward to these experiences. State officers attend each district meeting. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet the leaders and learn more about the organization.
Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. began in 1931, when forty interested women from existing garden clubs met at the Albert Pike Hotel in Little Rock. Nine clubs joined the federation as charter clubs on June 30, 1931. Fifteen additional clubs joined by October of that year. Landscaping and designing was of great interest at that time, and it remains such today.
Our activities include friendly monthly meetings to share knowledge on gardening or designing. Many members enjoy touring gardens, planning and participating in flower shows, attending state, regional, and national conventions, and participating in projects in our local communities. Garden clubs are for men and women of all ages. Some clubs meet during the day and others in the evening to accommodate those who work.
By being federated our clubs are members of National Garden Clubs, Inc., and the South Central Region which includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas.
