Huntsville Woman Wins Award of Honor
At the recent Deep South Region of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. 2009 Convention Awards Banquet held at the Marriott March 28, Margaret Reynolds (right) President of The Garden Clubs of Alabama, Inc., proudly presented The Deep South Region Award of Honor to Mimi Potthoff (left). Mimi is President of the Federated Garden Clubs of Huntsville & Madison County, a member of Hampton Cove Garden Club and a Flower Show Judge in Council VII of the Alabama Council of Flower Show Judges. She was honored for her years of dedicated service to her community and for her garden club efforts showing all around excellence in her many endeavors which include creating many Habitat for Humanity landscapes, starting a seniors garden therapy garden club and co-chairing a British Tea for them, chairing the Huntsville's Bicentennial Flower Show presented by her federation, staging many flower shows presented at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, working with youth for the Great American Clean Up, serving as Operation Green Team's Youth Liaison, Chairing Every Light a Prayer for Peace Program for two years, and serving in many offices and chairmanships for both her own Hampton Cove Garden Club and the Federated Garden Clubs. As Alabama's recipient of the Award of Honor, Mimi competed for the top honor with candidates from each of the six member states of the Deep South Region. Mimi is a member of Holy Spirit Church where she serves as a lector. Mimi and her husband Tom have been married thirty eight years and have three children and two grandchildren, all of whom are thrilled for her!
